Star Trek 2 gets release date

Star Trek 2 will arrive on May 17th 2013, and will be released in 3D. That’s nearly a year from the original 2012 target release, and the 3D is definitely new.

2013 is starting to shape up to be another geek heavy summer. Iron Man 3 will come out just a couple weeks before Star Trek 2, and then Thor 2 is expected along with The Man of Steel. And even before all of those come out, the long-awaited movie adaptation of Ender’s Game will be released.

Just added Robocop himself will make an appearance. Ok not as robocop but Peter Weller who played robocop will show up in the sequel. It is rumored at this time that he will play the mentor to the main villain.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to join returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, etc.. He’s reportedly playing the villain.

Thirty five year-old Cumberbatch has been active in theater, TV, and film for a decade, but had a banner last few years with roles in The Whistleblower, BBC’s Sherlock, and this awards season’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and War Horse. His acerbic take on Sherlock Holmes is probably his best known and best loved work of late, but his turn as Gary Oldman’s skeptical but loyal right hand man in Tinker Tailor is another recent highlight; next year he’ll pull double duty in The Hobbit voicing the dragon Smaug and the Necromancer for Peter Jackson.

This seems to be shaping up nicely. Maybe I'll give the first one another look.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been known to have a villainous role in the forthcoming Star Trek sequel in J.J. Abrams rebooted sci-fi franchise, the specifics of his character have been kept under tight wraps. Now news has come out that he will indeed play the beloved villain Khan. It is also been mentioned that Klingons will play a role in the upcoming film as well.

And as a side note Lenoard Nimoy is going to have some role in the film.
