Warner Bros looking into Dark Tower series

Postby jasonjames » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:13 pm

The Dark Tower series is one of Stephen Kings best. This project has long been being worked on, shopped around, and a non stop rumor mill. The rumor now is that that Warner Bros is looking into making this, Ron Howard is still attached to direct, and Javier Bardem is said to be playing the lead character Roland. The problem is for this to work it would have to be epic. Not sure that it can be done in the epic style it is needed with all the budget cuts this project has been hit with. Though even then I still want to see this done as it has the potential to be a top franchise.

WB has passed on the Dark Tower series and Ron Howard is out shopping it around again.

After all the deal does call for the adaptation to start off as a film, then switch over to the small screen for a short televised series run, then turned back into a movie finale. The financial implications would hurt the distributing studio if the first part of the planned adaptation failed. So it’s really no surprise that the studios didn’t want to take the risk. Well you might think that other studios might not want to even touch this project with a 10-foot pole, but Media Rights Capital has stepped in as the next studio hoping to make Howard’s dream come true.

Stephen King has had great success on the small screen with series so I could see this working. Just think that it might confuse some or turn some off that don't like switching between the two different media outlets. Though it could drive up digital and dvd purchases as that would kind of bridge the gap.
