On Nov 7, of 2008 we will get the next Bond movie. This one actually seems as though they are taking what happened in the last movie and advancing the story. That is not something that most Bond films do. I like Daniel Craig as Bond, he brings a more British style and also a much stronger version of Bond.

View first unread post Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder has gotten news of late as protesters are urging people to boycott the movie on the premise that it makes fun of the mentally challenged. If actors fit in to the “mentally challenged” category they have some ground to stand on. It’s been a long time since there has been a movie where actors poked fun at themselves this much and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Tropic Thunder starts out as a bunch of prima dona whining actors are trying to make a Vietnam era war movie based on a book by Nick Nolte’s character. The director of the movie is having trouble controlling the actors and Nolte’s character suggests an alternative means of filming. The actors soon find themselves in real danger, unbeknownst to them, when they run across some drug-runners. The actors think it’s part of the script until quite a ways in and hilarity in sues.

I haven’t laughed at a movie this much since I can’t remember when! The comedy is mostly original and non cliché. I’m not a Ben Stiller fan and think his part could have been played better but I can’t detract from his writing talent as this movie proves it’s top notch. Tom Cruise makes a cameo appearance as the movie’s producer and in my opinion, it’s the best acting he’s done in years. I actually forgot about Scientology totally for at least as long as the movie ran.

If you liked the “Hot Shots” movies this is at least 10 times better and I’m giving it a “full price” review. It’s worth seeing in the theatre if only for the reactions of the rest of the audience. Just remember, “Never go full retard.”
