Superman The Movie
Synopsis: Unable to convince the ruling council of Krypton that their world will destroy itself soon, scientist Jor-El takes drastic measures to preserve the Kryptonian race: He sends his infant son Kal-El to Earth. There, gaining great powers under Earth's yellow sun, he will become a champion of truth and justice. Raised by the Kents, an elderly farm couple, Clark Kent learns that his abilities must be used for good. The adult Clark travels to Metropolis, where he becomes a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet...and a caped wonder whose amazing feats stun the city: Superman! Meanwhile, Lex Luthor, the world's greatest criminal mind, is plotting the greatest real estate swindle of all time. Can't even the Man of Steel stop this nefarious scheme?

Of Note: The background for this film and its three sequels was based in the original Superman comic book 'mythology', which was changed in the mid-1980's. This accounts for various small differences between current comic books and the films, such as (in the comics) Jonathan Kent living well into Superman's adulthood and various other superheroes occupying the same world (each was originally confined to their own "universe").

To start with the film was made in 1978 and did not have access to the special effects of the movies filmed today. This movie does a good job capturing the spirit of Superman. Everybody will remeber Christopher Reeve for his role as Superman. Also don't forget that Marlon Brando plays Jor-El and Gene Hackman is Lex Luthor. Overall this movie is good but has some weeknesses. It at times takes liberties to skip what I view to be important events and story threads. It was almost like a couple of pages of the script were lost or thrown out. If you are a Superman fan and don't own this you should go out and get it. If you are a casual fan you might want to rent it. No matter what your fan level is you should check this movie out.
