Since honesty is the best policy I will be honest and say that I am not overly fond of this movie. Having said that I will start with some of the better parts of the movie. I liked the fact that as a post apocalyptic movie they do a good job making the world feel empty. The towns, the people, and the wilderness do truely feel like they are empty of everything we have created for ourselves today. For the most part the actors and actresses do a good job and help sell the feel of the film as having little or no hope. Even the guest appearance of Tom Petty was pretty cool and something he had always wanted to do. Now to the negatives. First off the movie is almost three hours long but feels like it is longer. There could have easily been 30 minutes cut from the film and it not only would have been shorter but a better film. There are several scenes that might have worked good in the book but not so much in the movie as they really did little to advance the story or the characters. I do love the story. If we lost everything what things would we fight to get back so that we could at least feel like things are going in the right direction. The bad thing is that it took over 30 minutes of film time to establish that. Overall I just couldn't get over some of the strange scenes and the length of the film to rate this one any higher. I have now watched it twice and my opinion of the film softened a little after watching it the second time but not all that much.
